Canadian Tire Jump Start® Program Criteria

Community partners will be responsible for identifying children in financial need looking to participate in organized sports and recreational activities that require the child to be physically active.  Each community partner may use different specific ‘means tests’ to assess financial need – the key test for this program is that the family’s financial need would make them eligible for other forms of assistance based on these means test.   Listed below are additional criteria that shall be met:

  • Children between 4 to 18 years of age
  • Funding can be used to cover registration fees, equipment costs and transportation costs
  • Maximum support provided per child in any one submission period is $300, with the opportunity to fund the same child for successive seasons
  • Maximum support is for one activity per child per submission period
  • Funding is available for all children within a low-income family
  • 100% of the monies paid to support a child go to the direct benefit of the child (no funds are to be used to pay for administration or for any other use).

NOTE: Reimbursements for program, equipment or transportation costs already paid by (or on behalf of) the family shall not be granted.

One of the objectives when executing the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program is to reduce or eliminate the barriers low-income families face when registering their children into a sport or recreational activity.  As we strive to eliminate the financial barriers for these families, we do not want to create systemic or other such barriers.  A requirement to complete a long or complicated application forms or being forced to disclose family income can create such barriers by discouraging the family to apply.  Canadian Tire Jumpstart does not require an application form be completed by a family, however we do recognize that a form requesting basic information does assist Chapter members in gathering information required to assess a request for support.  A template form has been developed to assist those Chapters who feel they need to utilize an application form.

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Submission Form is solely for the use of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Chapter members to communicate their approval of a child or children for funds to the FFF Associate Manager on behalf of the Chapter and the families they serve.  Submission Forms are completed by the Chapter member and forwarded to the FFF Associate Manager for approval.  Once approved, the Associate Manager will forward the request to the FFF Office for cheque processing.

One of the objectives when executing the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program is to ensure the confidentiality of every child being supported through the program.  Canadian Tire Jumpstart would like to ensure that a minimum number of people are aware of a child receiving support and that those who do, keep it confidential.

Due to the nature of this program and the regulations of the Privacy Act, the Foundation For Families requires each member of the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Chapter to complete and sign a confidentiality statement.
